Employment Opportunity: Program Facilitator – Empowering Indigenous Women and Girls Program

Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides programming and services to empower children, youth, women and families to end the cycle of violence through holistic healing and Indigenous teachings and activities.

Background: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Facilitator is responsible for the development, coordination and facilitation of the Empowering Indigenous Women and Girls Project.  The Program Facilitator will lead a family violence awareness project for 24 Indigenous female participant’s ages 18-30 who will take part in a series of workshops, personal development and cultural healing opportunities. The Program Facilitator will provide support, guidance and facilitation for participants to enhance their leadership skills while increasing awareness of family violence.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development, planning and coordination of the project.
  • Ability to recruit participants, organize programming and facilitate personal development and training opportunities.
  • Work with Cultural Advisor to lead and facilitate sharing circles, healing circles and cultural activities.
  • Support program participants through one on one and group initiatives.
  • Effectively work within the team to provide support to the participants, programs and staff.
  • Develop, coordinate and lead a gathering to educate the community about family violence.
  • Assist with planning, coordination and implementation of Domestic Violence workshops and Wahbung events.
  • Prepare monthly reports and attend weekly program meetings and sharing circles.
  • Network with community partners and sister organizations.
  • Complete program evaluation and final report.

Qualifications:

  • Acceptable combination of education and work experience, bachelor’s degree or certification in related field is an asset.
  • Experience working with women and girls who have experienced or witnessed Family Violence.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate groups, training and programming.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and traditional teachings.
  • Experience leading workshops, circles and gatherings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful working relationships with sister organizations and community partners.
  • Maintain the integrity, philosophy and values of the organization.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel is an asset.

SALARY RANGE: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour

HOURS OF WORK: 25 hours per week. Must be available to work day, evening and occasional weekends.

 Background: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Cultural Advisor is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination and facilitation of Indigenous traditional activities, ceremonies and events.  The Cultural Advisor will provide support, guidance and traditional teachings to participants within a group or a one on one setting and to the organization as a whole.

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Planning and coordination of traditional ceremonies such as Full Moon, Pipe, Naming, Sweatlodge and Seasonal ceremonies.
  • Facilitation of sharing circles, teaching circles and healing circles.
  • Support program participants through one on one and group counseling opportunities.
  • Attend organization programs to share teachings, wisdom and knowledge with participants.
  • Coordinate cultural activities such as Medicine Picking, skirt making, drum group.
  • Assist with feasts and celebrations.
  • Assist Elders with ceremony and gathering of medicines and ceremonial supplies.
  • Assist with planning, coordination and implementation of Domestic Violence Workshops and Wahbung Events.
  • Prepare monthly reports and attend weekly program meetings and sharing circles.
  • Provide culturally appropriate support and guidance to staff and Board of Directors within the organization.
  • Network with other programs community events and the promote cultural teachings ceremonies and activities

Qualifications:

  • Acceptable combination of education and work experience, bachelor’s degree or certification in related field is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and traditional teachings.
  • Knowledge and experience with facilitation and coordination of traditional teachings, activities and ceremonies.
  • Experience working with children, youth, women and families who have experienced or witnessed Domestic Violence.
  • Experience with family assessments, counselling and support in the area of Family Violence.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate culturally appropriate programming.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, within a team setting and build successful working relationships with community partners.
  • Maintain the integrity, philosophy and values of the organization.
